Angela joined our firm a little over three weeks ago and is already establishing herself as a valuable team member and interior designer.  As a native of Raleigh, Angela knows the ins and outs of the area. She has a great sense of humor and brings a wealth of knowledge from her previous venture as an owner of a childrens fine furniture store. We are thrilled to have Angela on board!

How would you describe your professional style?

Classic, timeless with a little something unexpected.

How has your aesthetic evolved?

Both professionally and in my personal life, I like less clutter.  It almost always has to mean something or have a function to be in my home.

What are your inspirations?

Personally,  God and my children are my inspiration.  Professionally, whatever the one item is that excites the client.

What is the essential element of any room?

Whatever excites the client.  This could be something they have already that we plan around or a lamp, rug or artwork that inspires the rest of the room, from there we build on that.

What is your design philosophy?

If you do know what you like or even what you dont like, you will always know the feeling you want the room to have.  If the client can show me pictures or explain the feel they want the room to have, we can create it.

What is the most important thing you’ve learned about business?

To listen.

What are your three must-haves?

My planner, my phone and my lipstick and sunglasses (these count as one!) I can go anywhere with these!

What piece of advice would you give to someone starting out in the design industry?

Try as many internships, volunteer or work positions as possible so that you will know what area of design sparks your interest.

What has been your smartest business decision?

To take this job!

What does value mean for you?

Getting the best made, most beautiful item that fits within the budget.

What’s on your DVR?  What shows do you keep up with?

The only one I can safely watch with my 14 year old son is Friday Night Lights and Modern Family. The one I have to watch alone or with my Mom Flipping Out.

What are you reading right now?

The Help, I am making myself before I go and see the movie.

If you weren’t in interior design, what would you be doing?

I would do more of what I already do in my spare time and that is, spend time with my family and volunteer to do home repairs for those in need.

Favorite paint color and why?

Shagreen, it is the color of my bedroom.

How did you get started in this field?

We bought a historic home that was divided into apartments.  We returned it as much to its original as we could.  We were knocking holes in walls, looking for original columns etc.  The enormous panel doors and beautiful staircase, all the history, made me want to help everyone find the beauty in their home!

Where’s your favorite place that you’ve traveled?

Florence, Itlay.  I love the history, art, beauty and people!

In your eyes, what are the biggest trends for 2011?

I think the trend to buy locally, from local artists etc. and the trend to buy U.S. made products is only beginning to become as important as it should be!

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

The connection with the clients, the process for me and the end result for the client.
