DuPont recently reached out to ask to let us know that they’ve engaged Mark Woodman (internationally renowned color expert) to assist them in developing colors for next generation consumer products, including Corian and Zodiaq countertops. DuPont offered us access to Mark, giving us an opportunity to ask him a series of questions about what’s coming in color trends over the next 2-1/2 years.

We put together about a dozen questions for Mark covering all the big color questions floating around in our minds. Mark responded to us via Flip Cam… and some of his answers surprised us! Unfortunately, we couldn’t visit Mark in person, so our side of the conversation is presented in the video as text. Check out Mark’s responses and use this opportunity to get your house ahead of the color curve!

See below the video for some more information on Mark and what’s new from DuPont!

Curious who Mark Woodman is? Here’s an excerpt from his bio:

As owner of Mark Woodman Design & Color, a consulting firm, Mr. Woodman’s design work has ranged from private residences and office interiors to hand selecting the color palettes for entire communities. We asked DuPont what prompted them to engage Mark, and here’s what they told us:

For years, DuPont has worked with outside design and trend companies to keep a pulse on the cutting edge of colors. 2010 is no different with our 10 new colors of Corian® – 8 rich metallics, the modern Designer White and the nature-inspired Cottage Lane.

Additionally, DuPont’s internal research and development department is dedicated to deliver what’s new and hot to the design community. For our 2011 color trend report, DuPont conducted external marketing research with Global Color Research. Mark Woodman, North American representative for Global Color Research and board of directors member of the Color Marketing Group, specializes in the prediction and direction of color. Working with Global Color Research and Mark ensures we are delivering what you want in design, color and how it touches our professional lives.

“The new DuPont™ Corian® colors are not only trend-setting, but also versatile,” said Maureen McGeehan, retail marketing manager – DuPont Building Innovations. “The 2010 colors give homeowners the creative license to select hues that pave the way for contemporary home design. These colors will empower everyone to start their own trends or follow those of a favorite designer. The invigorated color palette further expands the unlimited design possibilities that only Corian® can offer.”

Our Experiences with DuPont Surfaces

We’re big fans of DuPont’s surfaces here at OPC. Kim and I put Corian in our first home; we loved the integrated, seamless large-basin sink. We’re in the process of upgrading the kitchen in our current home (on the heels of our Brazilian Walnut hardwood installation) and are planning to install DuPont’s Zodiaq Quartz surface countertops.

Stay tuned for the entire process of selecting and installing DuPont Zodiaq quartz surface countertops, along with a dozen other articles on remodeling a kitchen, in the October-November timeframe.
