I’ve really enjoyed my time at the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodeling Show. Already, I’ve been able to meet some great people, try out some awesome tools and attend some really thought provoking classes. This show is geared toward contractors and one theme that keeps popping up is how to build a customer referral base. Here are a few quotes I’d like to share:

“Will your customers refer you in the future?”

“Become an advocate for the homeowner”

and my favorite…. “Dead customers make for bad referrals”

All these statements have the same meaning- put the customer first. But as a homeowner,

Hopefully you’ve noticed that we are sporting better pictures on our posts these days. That’s because a couple months back, we upgraded our equipment and purchased the Nikon D90. You know how good it feels to have the right tool for the job? That’s what it feels like to take pictures with this camera.

The D90 is a digital single-lens reflex camera or DSLR. It’s been around since 2008 but continues to be a top seller. I’ve used a D90 in the past so I knew it was easy to use and really made you look like a pro.

Nikon D90 DSLR Camera Review

The D90 has been well covered by plenty of other sites but I wanted to share my thoughts about this camera. Here it i

Every spring and fall I look forward to going to a local Nearly New Sale in order to buy needed (or desired) baby gear, supplies, and clothes for the coming two seasons (I say two because the sale occurs twice a year). Almost every baby item we own has been a greatly appreciated hand-me-down or was purchased at this sale!

The “Nearly New Sale” at the Howard County Fair Grounds, MD is different from a consignment sale in that it is not vendors but mothers, just like me, looking to sell gently used gear and clothing that they no longer use at CHEAP prices. It

As Hurricane Earl makes his way up the Atlantic coast, we have a tangible reminder to review our homeowners insurance policies for hurricane and tropical storm deductibles and exclusions.

Hurricane insurance deductibles can have a dramatic affect on how an insurance company will compensate you in the event your house is damaged in a storm. All too many homeowners find out about these limitations for the first time in the aftermath of a storm, when stresses and tensions are already high and losses are piling up.

What Are Hurricane & Tropical Storm Deductibles?

For those who live in areas rarely or never affected by hurricanes and tropical storms, a special deductible that applies only to “named storms” is probably a new idea. Sim

This Before and After from Jenny @ Anything Pretty ran in the 2009 Before and After contest and was one of our finalists.  It’s one of the top transformations of a fireplace we’ve received. Jenny uses paint, accessories, and materials available at the big box stores. We hope you enjoy reading it again, or if you’re new here, for the first time.

This week’s Before and After is brought to you by Jenny @ Anything Pretty.  Jenny,

Well, I showed you the most dated of the St. Elmo’s Fire sets, complete with a Rebel Yell mural. The rest of the sets, though 25 years old, could work with just a few tweaks.

First we have Andrew McCarthy and Emilio Estevez’s man cave, complete with bottles of alcohol, a mess, lots of stereo equipment and albums, and a coffin for a coffee table. Man Cave design never changes much, it just gets better gaming systems. This one probably had Colecovision or Atari:

Next we have Mare Winningham’s parents’ traditional home, which looks like it was inspired by Dorothy Draper’s original design for The Greenbrier. Now they
